2/3/2020 MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate Judiciary Committee meets on Tuesday to hear a variety of legislation
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Judiciary Committee will be meeting on Tuesday, February 4 at the RISE of the Senate (approximately 4:45 p.m.) in Room 313 of the State House to hear and/or consider the following pieces of legislation:
  • 2020-S 2005, sponsored by Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio (D-Dist. 4, North Providence, Providence), requires that the Secretary of EOHHS, the Secretary of Commerce of the Commerce Corporation and the Commissioners of Elementary and Secondary Education and Postsecondary Education be appointed subject to the approval of the Senate.
  • 2020-S 2090, sponsored by Sen. Frank S. Lombardi (D-Dist. 26, Cranston), provides that a vehicle unlawfully parked in a properly marked "handicapped parking" space would be towed at the owner's expense.
  • 2020-S 2134, sponsored by Sen. Harold M. Metts (D-Dist. 6, Providence), prohibits discrimination in housing against those persons who have a lawful source of income.
  • 2020-S 2136, sponsored by Sen. Erin Lynch Prata (D-Dist. 31, Warwick, Cranston), repeals current state law regarding paternity and replaces it with a more comprehensive parentage act that provides procedures establishing parentage, genetic testing, surrogacy agreements and assisted reproduction.
