MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate Judiciary Committee to hear testimony on several bills related to health care rights
|
STATE HOUSE — The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to meet twice Tuesday to vote on several pieces of legislation and to hear testimony on several bills related to health care rights.
The committee is scheduled to convene Tuesday, May 20, at 3:30 p.m. in Room 313 on the third floor of the State House to vote on several bills. At the rise of the Senate (about 5 p.m.), the committee will reconvene to hear testimony on several bills, including the following:

2025-S 0151 — this bill, introduced by Sen. Meghan E. Kallman (D-Dist. 15, Pawtucket, Providence), would establish the process to provide a legal mechanism whereby a terminally ill patient may choose to end their life using medications prescribed by a physician.

2025-S 0305 — this bill, introduced by Sen. Elaine J. Morgan (R-Dist. 34, Hopkinton, Charlestown, Exeter, Richmond, West Greenwich), would establish the right of a medical practitioner, healthcare institution, or healthcare payer not to participate in or pay for any medical procedure or service this violates their conscience.

2025-S 0621 — this bill, introduced by Sen. Alana DiMario (D-Dist. 36, North Kingstown, Narragansett, New Shoreham), would provide that advanced practice registered nurses have the same immunity from liability as physicians and surgeons.

2025-S 0066 — this bill, introduced by Sen. Pamela J. Lauria (D-Dist. 32, Barrington, Bristol, East Providence), would provide that statements by a health care provider regarding the unanticipated outcome of a patient's medical care and treatment shall be inadmissible as evidence of an admission of liability or as evidence of an admission.
