MEDIA ADVISORY: Sen. Raptakis to attend Exeter 9/11 event and bill signing of 9/11 moment of silence legislation tomorrow
|
STATE HOUSE – Sen. Leonidas P. Raptakis will be attending two events tomorrow to remember the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks.
First, Senator Raptakis will be attending the 23rd annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony being held at the RI Veterans Cemetery Wall of Honor at 9 a.m., located at 301 S County Trail in Exeter.
Later in the day, he will also be attending a ceremonial bill signing in the governor’s office at 3:30 p.m. for his legislation (2025-S 0179) that allows teachers in public schools to hold a brief moment of silence to recognize the anniversary of the tragic attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The legislation is modeled on a measure enacted in New York to commemorate the attacks on the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon.
“It’s important to recognize this terrible moment in our history and to memorialize those who lost their lives or loved ones on that day,” said Senator Raptakis (D-Dist. 33, Coventry, West Greenwich). “I’m glad the legislature and the governor took action on this legislation to allow Rhode Island educators to join with their colleagues in New York in having the chance to honor future anniversaries.”
