Representative Earl A. Read, III
Representative Earl Read (D-District 26, Coventry, West Warwick, Warwick)
was elected in November 2024. Representative Read is a criminal
justice instructor at the Regional Career and Technical Center at Coventry
High School. Previously, he served with the Warwick Police Department for 23
years of honorable service, retiring as a detective lieutenant in 2018.
He is a lifelong Rhode Islander and graduated from Cranston High School West
in 1989. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Rhode Island
in 1996 and a master's degree in criminal justice studies from Roger
Williams University in 2004. He served as a member of the Coventry Juvenile
Hearing Board and the Rhode Island Department of Education's Career and
Technical Standards Committee. Representative Read was born in
November 1971. He and his wife, Amy (Lague) Read have lived in Coventry for
26 years and raised their family there. They have three children, all of
whom are graduates of Coventry High School: Benjamin, who graduated from
Norwich University, is commissioned as an Officer in the United States
Army, and serves as a Blackhawk pilot in the Army National Guard, stationed
at Quonset Point; Susan, a recent magna cum laude graduate in communications
and media studies from Plymouth State University; and Charles, who graduated
from the Rhode Island Fire Training Academy in December 2024 and is a member
of the West Warwick Fire Department.
