Michael W. Chippendale (R) was elected by the House Minority Caucus in November 2018 to serve as the Minority Whip, the second-ranking position in the caucus. He has served the residents of District 40 (Foster, Coventry, Glocester) since first being elected in November 2010. He is a member of the House Oversight Committee, the House Corporations Committee, the House Internet and Technology Committee and the House Conduct Committee.
Before being elected, Rep. Chippendale owned and operated a custom manufacturing business. He is a Lector and a former Religious Education Instructor at St. Paul the Apostle Church. Currently he coaches baseball in the Foster/Glocester American Legion league, is a board member of the Foster/Glocester Juvenile Hearing Board and is a member of the Highland Rod and Gun Sportsman Club.
As a life-long Rhode Islander, Rep. Chippendale graduated from Johnston High School, studied at CCRI, and received an associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Design from New England Institute of Technology in 1989. He obtained a degree in Business Management from Johnson & Wales University in 2004.
Rep. Chippendale is a self-employed real estate investor & property manager. Born April 25, 1969, he resides in Foster with his wife Sherri and two children, Paige, a student at the URI College of Nursing and Séighín, a Ponaganset High School student.
