Gordon E. Rogers (R-Dist. 21, Coventry, Foster, Scituate, West
Greenwich) was first elected to the Senate in November 2018. Senator Rogers
was elected Senate Minority Whip in August 2022, and as such serves as an
ex-officio member of all standing Senate committees. He currently serves as
Secretary of the Senate Committee on Housing & Municipal Government and is a
member of the Senate Committee on Environment & Agriculture. Sen. Rogers
previously served on the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Senate Committee
on Rules, Government Ethics & Oversight.
Senator Rogers is a full time
DPW Director and an Assistant Emergency Director for the Town of Foster. He
is also an active volunteer in his hometown. He has been a member of the
Moosup Valley Fire Department since 1980 and currently serves as lieutenant.
He is also a volunteer EMT. In 2023, he was appointed to the Rhode Island
Emergency Management Advisory Council.
Raised on a dairy farm,
Senator Rogers is a Foster native who graduated from Ponaganset High School
and now owns three small businesses in Foster: GTH Construction, Stone House
Inn and Rogers Farm. He was first elected to the Foster Town Council as
president in 2010 and served three terms on the council. He is a past member
of the Foster Economic Development Advisory Committee and past member of the
Foster Police Station Building Committee.
During his time in the
legislature, Senator Rogers has been a leading voice on issues surrounding
rural communities within our state. He has championed funding local roadway
repairs and maintenance, appropriating funds for school safety and security
improvements, strengthening the Castle doctrine, returning surplus revenue
to taxpayers, and limiting renewals of a declaration of emergency.
Born on December 22, 1964, he resides in Foster with his wife Heidi. They
have four children and seven grandchildren.
