Rep. John W. “Jack” Lyle (R-Dist. 46, Lincoln, Pawtucket) was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018. He had previously served in the R.I. Senate from 1980 to 1986 and from 1990 to 1994. He is a member of the House Committee on Health, Education and Welfare, the House Committee on Corporations, the House Committee on Environment and Natural Resources and the House Committee on Special Legislation.
Representative Lyle is a retired educator. He spent 24 years as a classroom teacher and an administrator at Lincoln High School, then served for six years as the principal at Central Falls High School and two years as the Block Island superintendent of schools.
An attorney, he serves as an of-counsel member of the Providence law firm of LaPlante, Sowa and Goldman, and has been an arbitrator through the National Center for Dispute Settlement.
A graduate of Lincoln High School in 1968, Representative Lyle received his undergraduate degree in 1974 from Barrington College. He earned his Master’s degree in education from Providence College in 1978 and his Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University School of Law in 1992.
He is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association, the Rhode Island American Federation of Teacher Retirees and the Rhode Island Retired Principals’ Association. He was formerly a member of the Rhode Island PBS board of directors.
Born on May 19, 1950, he is married to Lori A. Lyle.
