Rep. Costantino condemns racist graffiti in Smithfield
|
STATE HOUSE — Rep. Gregory J. Costantino (D-Dist. 44, Lincoln, Smithfield, Johnston) has issued a statement condemning racist graffiti that was discovered on part of a Route 116 bridge in Smithfield.
“It’s shocking that this type of behavior still exists in a world that is becoming more inclusive and understanding,” said Representative Costantino. “The perpetrators of this act need to know the effects that their actions have on the community. They also need to know that racism and hatred will not be tolerated in Smithfield. This is a welcoming community that takes pride in its inclusivity, and will continue to celebrate its diversity.”
The offensive graffiti has been painted over by town highway crews, but Representative Costantino urges other officials to use the incident as an opportunity to speak out against hatred and intolerance.
