Sen. McKenney sworn in as General Assembly convenes

STATE HOUSE — Sen. Mark P. McKenney (D-Dist. 30, Warwick) was formally sworn into office Tuesday, Jan. 3, as the 2023-24 term of the Rhode Island General Assembly convened. He previously represented District 30 in the Senate from 2019-2020.
Senator McKenney was one of eight new members of the Senate who took the oath of office, which was administered to all 38 senators by Rhode Island Secretary of State Gregg M. Amore.
The Senate began its legislative year with a program of activities that included the re-election of Sen. Dominick J. Ruggerio (D-Dist. 4, North Providence, Providence) as President of the Senate.
Senator McKenney, an attorney and small business owner, has served as president of Literacy Volunteers Rhode Island, Providence Community Library and Buttonwoods Beach Association. He has served on the State Library Board, Buttonwoods Fire District Board of Supervisors and the Warwick Zoning Board.
A graduate of Boston College and Catholic University Law School, he lives in the Buttonwoods section of Warwick with his wife, Tricia. They have three children, Caitlin, Cara and Dan.
