MEDIA ADVISORY: House Committee on Municipal Government and Housing to meet Tuesday
|
STATE HOUSE – The House Committee on Municipal Government and Housing is scheduled to meet Tuesday, March 7, at the rise of the House in Room 101 on the first floor of the State House. The committee will hear several bills relating to homeless shelters, zoning and the rights of renters.
Among others, the committee will hear testimony on the following bills:

2023-H 5599 — This bill, introduced by House Committee on Municipal Government and Housing Chairman Stephen M. Casey (D-Dist. 50, Woonsocket) would prohibit accessory dwelling units, also known as ADUs, from being used as short-term rentals. It would enable municipalities to fine property owners and hosting platforms a fine of up to $500 for violations.

2023-H 5377 — This bill, introduced by Rep. Karen Alzate (D-Dist. 60, Pawtucket, Central Falls), would require cities and towns to implement affordable housing requirements upon all developers of tax stabilization applications for developments of 5 or more housing units based upon median income as defined by the federal HUD

2023-H 5119 — This bill, introduced by Rep. John J. Lombardi (D-Dist. 8, Providence), would establish rules and procedures for licensing emergency shelters, including setting minimum standards and prohibiting the charging of fees to the residents.

2023-H 5204 — This bill, introduced by Rep. Grace Diaz (D-Dist. 11, Providence), would require the secretary of housing to create a consumer guide of landlord-tenant laws to be updated annually.

2023-H 5376 — This bill, introduced by Representative Lombardi, would prohibit landlords from inquiring about an applicant’s prior incarceration and from discriminating against those who have been released from prison.
