4/3/2023 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Oversight Committee to hear update and overview of services from Office of Child Advocate
STATE HOUSE — The House Committee on Oversight is scheduled to meet Thursday to hear a review of operations from the Office of the Child Advocate.

The committee will meet Thursday, April 6, at the rise of the House (about 5 p.m.) Room 135 on the first floor of the State House.

Acting Child Advocate Katelyn Medeiros is expected to give an update and overview of programs and services. The Office of Child Advocate is tasked with the review of all fatalities or near fatalities involving abuse or neglect of children involved or recently involved with the Department of Children, Youth and Families. The House Oversight Committee began reviewing these fatalities in 2017 when the child advocate issued a report detailing the deaths of four children in DCYF custody.

The House Oversight Committee is chaired by Rep. Patricia Serpa (D-Dist. 27, West Warwick, Coventry, Warwick).

The meeting will be televised live by Capitol Television, which can be seen by Cox Communications subscribers on channels 15 and 61 for high definition, on channel 15 by i3Broadband viewers, and channel 34 for Verizon subscribers. Livestreaming will be available at https://www.rilegislature.gov/CapTV/Pages/default.aspx.
