|
STATE HOUSE – Special Senate Commission to Study Non-Plurality Voting Methods and Runoff Elections for General Assembly and General Officer Primaries will meet tomorrow.
The commission is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Wednesday, May 31, at 2 p.m. in the Senate lounge on the second floor of the State House. The agenda includes a member discussion as well as public comment. Written testimony is strongly encouraged and may be submitted to pbreslin@rilegislature.gov until 11 a.m. tomorrow with a name and any applicable organization affiliation, preferably as a .pdf file.
The commission, led by Sen. Samuel D. Zurier (D-Dist. 3, Providence), is studying various methods of selecting winners in elections, other than the current plurality system, such as runoff elections, approval elections, ranked-choice voting and/or hybrid combinations of these systems, in order to make recommendations about whether or how such changes might benefit Rhode Island. It is to report its finding to the General Assembly by Oct. 31.
