6/6/2023 Sen. de la Cruz, Rep. Noret to co-chair Rhode Island Day of Portugal ceremony and reception at State House
STATE HOUSE — Senate Minority Leader Jessica de la Cruz (R-Dist. 23, Burrillville, Glocester, North Smithfield) and Rep. Thomas E. Noret (D-Dist. 25, Coventry, West Warwick), along with the Portuguese-American members of the Rhode Island General Assembly, will welcome community leaders and the general public for a ceremony and reception at the State House.

Senator de la Cruz and Representative Noret are both of Portuguese descent and co-chairs of the 2023 Committee of the Celebration of the Day of Portugal and Portuguese Heritage in Rhode Island.

The celebration will take place Friday, June 9 from 6-8 p.m. starting in the State Room on the second floor of the State House.

The event is aimed at showcasing Portuguese culture and the many contributions the Portuguese have made to the Ocean State.  The Coral Herança Portuguesa will sing the American and Portuguese national anthems.  The Ambassador of Portugal to the United States will be in attendance along with invited state officials.  After a speaking program, the Danças e Cantares Folkloric Group of Clube Juventude Lusitana of Cumberland will perform in the Rotunda. Refreshments and appetizers will be provided.
