Media Advisory: Non-plurality voting commission to present final report Tuesday
|
STATE HOUSE – Special Senate Commission to Study Non-Plurality Voting Methods and Runoff Elections for General Assembly and General Officer Primaries will meet Tuesday to present its final report.
The commission is scheduled to meet Tuesday, December 19, at 2 p.m. in the Senate lounge on the second floor of the State House.
The commission, led by Sen. Samuel D. Zurier (D-Dist. 3, Providence), studied various methods of selecting winners in elections, other than the current plurality system, such as runoff elections, approval elections, ranked-choice voting and/or hybrid combinations of these systems, in order to make recommendations about whether or how such changes might benefit Rhode Island.
The meeting will be televised live by Capitol Television, which can be seen by Cox Communications subscribers on channels 15 and 61 for high definition, by i3Broadband viewers on channel 15 and by Verizon subscribers on channel 34. Livestreaming will be available at https://www.rilegislature.gov/CapTV/Pages/default.aspx.
