Media Advisory: House Environment Committee to meet Tuesday, hear update on Act on Climate
|
STATE HOUSE – The House Environment and Natural Resources Committee will meet Tuesday to hear a presentation on the implementation of the Act of Climate and to hear five bills relating to pesticide use at schools, hunting regulation and the planting of pollinator-friendly plants.
The committee is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at the rise of the House sometime after 4:30 p.m. in Room 101 on the first floor of the State House. The committee will hear a presentation from Director of Department of Environmental Management Terrence Gray on the progress of the implementation of the Act on Climate. In addition, the bills to be heard include:

2024-H 7359 —This bill, introduced by Rep. Lauren H. Carson (D-Dist. 75, Newport), would prohibit the use of lawn care pesticides on school grounds, except in emergency situations.

2024-H 7296 — This bill, introduced by Rep. Michelle E. McGaw (D-Dist. 71, Portsmouth, Tiverton, Little Compton), would authorize and empower the department of transportation to plant pollinator friendly species of trees, shrubs, grasses and plants.

2024-H 7358 — This bill, introduced at the request of DEM by Chairman David A. Bennett (D-Dist. 20, Warwick, Cranston), would expand the reporting rules for collisions between vehicles and wildlife to include animals other than deer, and direct DEM to develop rules and regulations regarding the possession and use of the animal carcass involved in these collisions.
