House passes Rep. Finkelman’s Jamestown tax relief bill
|
STATE HOUSE – The House of Representatives today approved legislation (2024-H 7243) sponsored by Rep. Alex Finkelman that would provide tax relief to Jamestown’s Gold Star parents and blind residents.
“Costs are rising across the board for most of our residents and I believe these two groups of individuals deserve the tax relief written into this bill. Our town’s Gold Star parents have sacrificed the most important thing to a parent, their child, so that we may remain safe and free, and our visually impaired residents already face so many significant challenges. Granting these residents some tax relief is the right thing to do and I am proud to sponsor this legislation,” said Representative Finkelman (D-Dist. 74, Jamestown, Middletown).
The legislation allows the Town of Jamestown to offer a tax dollar reduction to Gold Star parents and a tax dollar credit reduction on real property for legally blind individuals.
The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration where Sen. Dawn Euer (D-Dist. 13, Newport, Jamestown) has introduced the legislation (2024-S 2328).
