MEDIA ADVISORY: Quahog commission to discuss findings, make recommendations
|
STATE HOUSE — The special legislative commission to study the reduced catch of quahogs in Narragansett Bay will meet Tuesday, April 2, at 2 p.m. in Room 135 on the first floor of the State House.
The panel, which began meeting in September, will discuss its findings and make recommendations. The commission was tasked with making a comprehensive study and providing recommendations on the issues relating to the reduced catch of quahogs in Narragansett Bay. In making those determinations, the commission delved into nitrogen depletion, hypoxic conditions — oxygen deficiency, changing aquatic life, climate change and other issues that may have an impact on quahogs. The panel is required to report back to the General Assembly by May 31.
The commission is co-chaired by Rep. Joseph J. Solomon Jr. (D-Dist. 22, Warwick) and Sen. Alana DiMario (D-Dist. 36, North Kingstown, Narragansett, New Shoreham).
The meeting will be televised live by Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channel 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. It will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.
