Media Advisory: Senate Health and Human Services Committee to hear insurance bills
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Health and Human Services Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday and Thursday this week for hearings on bills concerning health insurance.
The committee meets tomorrow, Tuesday, April 2, at the rise of the Senate (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in the Senate Lounge on the second floor of the State House for hearings on numerous bills, including:

2024-S 2069 — Sponsored by Sen. Melissa A. Murray (D-Dist. 24, Woonsocket, North Smithfield), this bill would cap the total amount that a covered person is required to pay for a covered prescription asthma inhaler at $25 per 30-day supply.

2024-S 2070 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Samuel D. Zurier (D-Dist. 3, Providence) would prohibit insurers from imposing any cost-sharing requirements for any diagnostic or supplemental breast examinations.

2024-S 2396 — Sponsored by Sen. Sandra Cano (D-Dist. 8, Pawtucket), this bill would require insurance policies that provide coverage to diagnose and treat infertility for women between 25 and 42 years to cover pre-implantation genetic diagnosis in conjunction with in vitro fertilization.
The committee meets again Thursday, April 4, at the rise of the Senate session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in the Senate Lounge on the second floor of the State House for hearings on more insurance bills, including:

2024-S 2715 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Alana M. DiMario (D-Dist. 36, Narragansett, North Kingstown, New Shoreham) would require health insurance coverage to include transportation for emergency services by ambulance or rescue. This bill is included in the Senate’s HEALTH initiative.

2024-S 2177 — Also sponsored by Senator DiMario, this bill would prohibit health benefit plans from reviewing prescriptions for opioid addiction treatment.

2024-S 2389 —This bill sponsored by Senate Health and Human Services Committee Chairman Joshua Miller (D-Dist. 28, Cranston, Providence) would authorize emergency medical service agencies to transport individuals to alternative facilities for treatment and permits licensed providers for mental health disorders to treat patients within the community.
Both meetings will be televised on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channel 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. They will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.
Testimony will be accepted in person or in writing. Written testimony must be submitted prior to 3 p.m. the day of the applicable meeting in order for it to be provided to the members of the committee at the hearing and to be included in the meeting records.
