Media Advisory: Senate Health and Human Services Committee to hear bill to better enable coverage for substance use treatment
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Health and Human Services Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday and Thursday this week for hearings on numerous bills, including one that would enable easier access to inpatient substance use treatment.
The committee meets tomorrow, Tuesday, April 9, at the rise of the Senate (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in the Senate Lounge on the second floor of the State House for hearings on numerous bills, including:

2024-S 2817 — Sponsored by Sen. Sandra Cano (D-Dist. 8, Pawtucket) on behalf of the Department of Health, this bill would make the Office of State Medical Examiners responsible for providing a multidisciplinary team review of suicide deaths with a goal of reducing its prevalence by examining trends in demographic, geographic and community risk factors.

2024-S 2819 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Alana M. DiMario (D-Dist. 36, Narragansett, North Kingstown, New Shoreham) on behalf of the Department of Health would remove the exemption from licensure for certain nursing service agencies accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations.
The committee meets again Thursday, April 11, at the rise of the Senate session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in Room 211 on the second floor of the State House for hearings on bills, including:

2024-S 2872 — This bill sponsored by Senate Health and Human Services Committee Chairman Joshua Miller (D-Dist. 28, Cranston, Providence) would require health insurers to cover residential/inpatient mental health services for detox/stabilization/substance abuse disorders without preauthorization or subject to concurrent review during the first 28 days.

2024-S 2869 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Jacob Bissaillon (D-Dist. 1, Providence) would require the director of the Department of Health to provide guidance to nongovernmental employers and the public on acquiring opioid antagonist medication and training for its use.

2024-S 2816 — Sponsored by Sen. Frank A. Ciccone (D-Dist. 7, Providence, Johnston) on behalf of the Department of Health, this bill provides for procedures for the burial of unclaimed remains.
