Media Advisory: Senate Health and Human Services Committee to hear variety of bills this week
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Health and Human Services Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday and Thursday this week for hearings on numerous bills.
The committee meets tomorrow, Tuesday, April 30, at the rise of the Senate (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in Room 211 on the second floor of the State House for hearings on several bills, including:

2024-S 2608 — Sponsored by Sen. Alana M. DiMario (D-Dist. 36, Narragansett, North Kingstown), this bill would require the Executive Office of Health and Human Services to establish an early childhood mental health hub program focused on improving access to infant and early childhood mental health services for children under age 6 and their families.

2024-S 2610 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Samuel W. Bell (D-Dist. 5, Providence) would expand the health insurance commissioner’s authority to set reimbursement rates for mental health services.

2024-S 2705 — Sponsored by Senator DiMario, this bill would require the Department of Children, Youth and Families to conduct periodic comprehensive needs assessments to determine whether the department’s programs and services meet the needs of children and families.

2024-S 2400 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, little Compton, Tiverton, Newport) would establish the Wholesale Prescription Drug Importation Program for the importation of wholesale prescription drugs from Canada to provide savings to Rhode Island consumers.

2024-S 2611 — Sponsored by Sen. Linda L. Ujifusa (D-Dist. 11, Portsmouth, Bristol), this bill would limit insurer’ use of step therapy, a protocol that establishes a specific sequence in which prescription drugs for a specified medical condition are covered by an insurer, by allowing medical providers to request step therapy exception.

2024-S 2704 — This bill sponsored by Senate President Pro Tempore Hanna M. Gallo (D-Dist. 27, Cranston, West Warwick) would authorize and regulate the distribution of the product known as “kratom.”
Both meetings will be televised on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channel 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. They will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.
Testimony will be accepted in person or in writing. Written testimony must be submitted prior to 3 p.m. the day of the applicable meeting in order for it to be provided to the members of the committee at the hearing and to be included in the meeting records.
