Media Advisory: Senate Health and Human Services Committee to hear organic reduction, licensing bills this week
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Health and Human Services Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday and Thursday this week for hearings on bills, including one that would establish facilities for natural organic reduction of human remains.
The committee meets tomorrow, Tuesday, May 7, at the rise of the Senate session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in the Senate Lounge on the second floor of the State House for hearings on:

2024-S 2877 — Sponsored by Sen. Tiara Mack (D-Dist. 6, Providence), this bill would provide for the operation and duties of natural organic reduction for the contained, accelerated conversion of human remains to soil. A disposition facility would be used for either cremation or natural organic reduction.

2024-S 3035 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Frank S. Lombardi (D-Dist. 26, Cranston) would establish the elective and/or independent administration of propofol and all FDA classified general anesthetics for any surgery or procedure is not within the scope of practice of nurse practitioners.

2024-S 2404 — This bill sponsored by Health and Human Services Committee Chairman Joshua Miller (D-Dist. 28, Cranston, Providence) broadens the definition of a “qualified individual” in acupuncture and Chinese medicine to include any person trained and certified in auricular acudetox.

2024-S 2625 — Also sponsored by Chairman Miller, this bill would relocate the chapter of state law relating to licensing of massage therapists from the “Health and Safety” title to the “Businesses and Professions” title with multiple amendments.

Testimony will be accepted in person or in writing. Written testimony must be submitted prior to 3 p.m. the day of the applicable meeting in order for it to be provided to the members of the committee at the hearing and to be included in the meeting records.
