Media Advisory: House Health, Human Services Committee to vote on unclaimed remains bill Thursday

STATE HOUSE – The House Health and Human Services Committee meets Thursday to vote on legislation to expand the statute on unclaimed human remains.
The committee is scheduled to meet Thursday, May 9, at the rise of the House session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in the House Lounge on the second floor of the State House. The committee is scheduled to vote on:

2024-H 7517— Sponsored by Rep. Arthur J. Corvese (D-Dist. 55, North Providence) on behalf of the Department of Health, this bill provides more flexibility on who qualifies as a family member who can claim remains from the Medical Examiner’s Office, and provides a timeline for doing so.

2024-H 8072 — This bill sponsored by Rep. Teresa A. Tanzi (D-Dist. 34, South Kingstown, Narragansett) would protect the solvency of health systems, providers and insurers, encourage fair treatment of hospitals and ensure adequate clinical workforce while advancing health equity through more scrutiny of reimbursement rates.

2024-H 8203 — Sponsored by Health and Human Services Committee Chairwoman Susan R. Donovan (D-Dist. 69, Bristol, Portsmouth), this bill authorizes emergency medical service agencies to transport individuals to alternative facilities for treatment and permits licensed providers for mental health disorders to treat patients within the community.

2024-H 8218 — This bill sponsored by Rep. Patricia A. Serpa (D-Dist. 27, West Warwick, Coventry) requires that health insurance coverage include transportation for emergency services by ambulance or rescue.
