Media Advisory: House Labor Committee meets tomorrow for vote on state social worker hiring bill

STATE HOUSE – The House Labor Committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow for a vote on legislation to help address the state’s difficulties in hiring social workers.
The meeting is scheduled tomorrow, Tuesday, May 7, at 3:45 p.m. in Room 101 on the first floor of the State House.

2024-H 8096 — Sponsored by Rep. Patricia A. Serpa (D-Dist. 27, West Warwick, Coventry), this bill would eliminate waiting periods for acceptance response for successful candidates, requires that all qualified candidates’ names be sent to the hiring agency, mandate that Department of Human Services social worker tests be offered quarterly and extends a Department of Children, Youth and Families pilot hiring program be expanded through March 15, 2026.
The meeting will be televised on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channel 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. It will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.
