Media Advisory: Municipal Government and Housing to vote on Speaker’s housing bill Thursday
|
STATE HOUSE – The House Committee on Municipal Government and Housing will meet Thursday to vote on a zoning bill from Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi’s housing package and to hear and vote on several other bills, including some related to short term rentals.
The committee is scheduled to meet Thursday, May 9, at the rise of the House sometime after 4:30 p.m. in Room 101 on the first floor of the State House. The committee is scheduled to vote on several bills, including:

2024-H 7981A — This bill introduced by Rep. Joshua J. Giraldo (D-Dist. 56, Central Falls) would require municipalities to allow two or more dwelling units by right on lots that compose at least 30% of the land area in the municipality, excluding industrial zones where residential use is prohibited for public health or safety reasons. It also clarifies that adaptive reuse of commercial and industrial buildings is not allowed where prohibited by environmental land use restrictions or for reasons of public health and safety.

2024-H 8146 — This bill introduced by Rep. Lauren H. Carson (D-Dist. 75, Newport) would expand the scope of the Special Legislative Commission to Review and Provide Recommendations for Policies that Deal with Numerous Economic and Social Short-Term Rentals Issues and extend the reporting date for the commission to Sep. 30, 2025.

2024-H 8182 — Also sponsored by Representative Carson, this bill would require hosting platforms offering short-term rental of residential property for tourist or transient use to disclose on listings the current, valid registration number and its expiration date.
