MEDIA ADVISORY: House Finance Committee meets three times this week to hear a variety of bills and budget amendments
|
STATE HOUSE – The House Finance Committee will meet three times this week to hear testimony on a variety of legislation and proposed budget amendments.
On Tuesday, May 14 at the RISE of the House (approximately 5 p.m.) in Room 35 of the State House the committee will meet to hear testimony on several bills.
Among the legislation scheduled to be heard are the following bills:

2024-H 7037, sponsored by Rep. Tina L. Spears (D-Dist. 36, Charlestown, New Shoreham, South Kingstown, Westerly), exempts from the sales tax scalp hair prosthesis or wigs that are necessary due to hair loss from a medical condition.

2024-H 7120, sponsored by Rep. Anthony J. DeSimone (D-Dist. 5, Providence), allows a deduction from federal adjusted gross income for interest payments on outstanding student loans.

2024-H 7399, sponsored by Rep. Joseph J. Solomon (D-Dist. 22, Warwick), creates a sales tax holiday on August 10 and 11, 2024.

2024-H 7405, sponsored by Rep. David J. Place (R-Dist. 47, Burrillville, Glocester), establishes a compact agreement among at least two states to prohibit the use of subsidies to selectively retain industry, or enticing company relocation from one state to another state, or to open a new facility.

2024-H 7546, sponsored by Rep. David Morales (D-Dist. 7, Providence), provides a tax upon the endowment of a private institution of higher education equal to two percent upon each dollar over $1 billion.
On Wednesday, May 15 at the RISE of the House in Room 35, the committee will meet to hear testimony on several pieces of legislation.

2024-H 7255, sponsored by Rep. Karen Alzate (D-Dist. 60, Pawtucket, Central Falls), requires every individual or group health insurance contract effective on or after January 1, 2025, to provide coverage to the insured and the insured's spouse and dependents for all FDA-approved contraceptive drugs, devices and other products.

2024-H 7298, sponsored by Rep. Patricia A. Serpa (D-Dist. 27, West Warwick, Coventry), states that all Medicaid programs operated by the Executive Office of Health and Human Services would not reimburse home care providers less than the fee-for-service rates adopted by rate review recommendations of the Office of Health Insurance Commissioners.

2024-H 7678, sponsored by Representative Morales, imposes a 75-cent surcharge on fares charged by rideshare companies, as well as an account to benefit RIPTA from the payment of sales taxes collected from rideshares.

2024-H 7858, sponsored by Representative Solomon, directs the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) to design a safety barrier or netting system on the several bridges within its authority.

2024-H 7903, sponsored by Rep. Kathleen A. Fogarty (D-Dist. 35, South Kingstown), establishes a medical primary care scholarship program to be administered by the commissioner of Postsecondary Education.
On Thursday, May 16 at 4 p.m. in Room 35, the committee will hear testimony on the following proposed budget amendments:
