Media Advisory: House Environment Committee to meet Tuesday to vote on hunting, roadkill and arsenic bills
|
STATE HOUSE – The House Environment and Natural Resources Committee will meet Tuesday to vote on bills related to captive hunting of animals, reporting rules for animal collisions and remediation levels for arsenic in soil.
The committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday, May 14, at the rise of the House sometime after 4:30 p.m. in Room 135 on the first floor of the State House. The committee will vote on the following bills:

2024-H 7294 —This bill introduced by Rep. Scott A. Slater (D-Dist. 10, Providence) would prohibit the captive hunting of domestic or wild animals. The committee will also consider an amendment to the bill.

2024-H 7358 —This bill introduced by House Environment and Natural Resources Committee Chairman David A. Bennett (D-Dist. 20, Warwick, Cranston) would expand the reporting rules for collisions between vehicles and wildlife to include animals other than deer, and direct DEM to develop rules and regulations regarding the possession and use of the animal carcass involved in these collisions. The committee will also consider an amendment to the bill.

2024-H 8071 —This bill introduced by Rep. Terri Cortvriend (D-Dist. 72, Portsmouth, Middletown) would not require the remediation of occurring arsenic in the soil with direct exposure of less than or equal to 20 milligrams per kilogram. The committee will also consider an amendment to the bill which would change that arsenic threshold level to 19 parts per million.
