Media Advisory: Senate Health and Human Services Committee to vote on HEALTH bills
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Health and Human Services Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday and Thursday this week for votes on numerous health care bills, including two included in the Senate HEALTH (Holistic Enhancement and Access Legislation for Total Health) initiative.
The committee meets tomorrow, Tuesday, May 14, at the rise of the Senate session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in room 212 on the second floor of the State House to vote on nine bills including:

2024-S 2719 — Sponsored by Sen. Alana M. DiMario (D-Dist. 36, Narragansett, North Kingstown, New Shoreham) as part of the Senate’s HEALTH initiative, this bill would create a drug affordability commission to receive and review manufacturers’ submissions to determine whether the cost of a drug under review is affordable.

2024-S 2723 — This bill sponsored by Senator Majority Leader Ryan W. Pearson (D-Dist. 19, Cumberland, Lincoln) as part of the HEALTH initiative would require the Office of the Health Insurance Commissioner to conduct a rate review of primary care reimbursement rates in the state.

2024-S 2872 — Sponsored by Health and Human Services Committee Chairman Joshua Miller (D-Dist. 28, Cranston, Providence), this bill would require health insurers to cover residential/inpatient mental health services for detox, stabilization and substance abuse disorders without preauthorization or concurrent review during the first 28 days.

2024-S 2618 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, Tiverton, Little Compton, Newport) creates an Olmstead Plan for people vulnerable to unnecessary institutionalization to update a continuum of care to receive services and supports in the least restrictive environment.
The committee meets again on Thursday, May 16, at the rise of the Senate in the Senate Lounge on the second floor of the State House to vote on six bills including:

2024-S 2013 — This bill sponsored by Senator DiPalma would, in effect, cap prescription costs at the level paid in Canada.

2024-S 2075 — Sponsored by Chairman Miller, this bill requires the secretary of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services to present to the General Assembly a plan for the realignment of state hospitals into a Department of Hospitals no later than July 1, 2024.

2024-S 2607 — This bill sponsored by Senator DiMario requires private insurers to coverage acute mental health crisis mobile response and stabilization services.
