5/28/2024 Media Advisory: Municipal Government and Housing to meet twice to hear and consider several bills
STATE HOUSE — The House Committee on Municipal Government and Housing will meet Tuesday and Thursday this week to vote on bills related to veterans, building codes for multifamily buildings, police and firefighter disability benefits and many local issues.

The committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday, May 28, at 3:45 p.m. in the House Lounge on the second floor of the State House. The committee is scheduled to vote on several bills related to individual municipalities.

The committee is also scheduled to meet Thursday, May 30, at the rise of the House sometime after 4:30 p.m. in the House Lounge on the second floor of the State House. The committee is scheduled to vote on several bills, including:
  • 2024-H 7383 — This legislation introduced by Rep. Brandon T. Voas (D-Dist. 57, Cumberland, Central Falls) would increase the minimum veterans’ exemption for municipal taxes. The committee will also consider an amendment to the bill.
  • 2024-H 7893 — This legislation introduced by Rep. June S. Speakman (D-Dist. 68, Warren, Bristol) would amend the state building and fire safety codes as they apply to multifamily dwellings. The committee will also consider an amendment to the bill.
  • 2024-H 7464 — This legislation introduced by Rep. Jacquelyn Baginski (D-Dist. 17, Cranston) would extend injured-on-duty benefits to police officers and firefighters that suffer from diagnosed post-traumatic stress disorders, except under certain conditions. The committee will also consider an amendment to the bill.
The committee will also hear several bills related to individual municipalities.

Written testimony must be submitted to HouseMunicipalGovernmentandHousing@rilegislature.gov. Testimony must include your name, the bill number, and your viewpoint, whether for, against, or neither. Sign-up sheets for in-person testimony will be available in the hearing room.
