Media Advisory: Senate to consider LEOBOR reform, requirement for safe storage of firearms, other legislation

STATE HOUSE – The Rhode Island Senate will convene Thursday to consider a proposal to reform the Law Enforcement Officers’ Bill of Rights (LEOBOR); a bill requiring the safe storage of firearms; and other legislation.
On Thursday, June 6, at 4 p.m., the Senate will convene in the Senate Chamber to consider:

Legislation to reform LEOBOR (2024-S 2096A, 2024-H 7263A), sponsored by Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio (D-Dist. 4, North Providence, Providence) and Deputy House Speaker Raymond A. Hull (D-Dist. 6, North Providence, Providence).

Legislation requiring the safe storage of firearms (2024-S 2202A, 2024-H 7373A), sponsored by Senator Pamela J. Lauria (D-Dist. 32, Barrington, Bristol, East Providence) and Rep. Justine A. Caldwell (D-Dist. 30, East Greenwich, West Greenwich).

Legislation prohibiting debt collectors from reporting all medical debt to credit bureaus (2024-S 2709A), part of the Rhode Island HEALTH Initiative, sponsored by Sen. Melissa A. Murray (D-Dist. 24, Woonsocket, North Smithfield).

Legislation to cap the interest rate on new medical debt (2024-S 2710A), part of the Rhode Island HEALTH Initiative, sponsored by Sen. John P. Burke (D-Dist. 9, West Warwick).

Legislation prohibiting the attachment of a lien to an individual’s home because of medical debt (2024-S 2711A), part of the Rhode Island HEALTH Initiative, sponsored by Sen. Jacob Bissaillon (D-Dist. 1, Providence).

Legislation allowing non-affiliated party voters to vote in party primaries, without becoming an affiliated party voter (2024-S 2418A), sponsored by Sen. Leonidas P. Raptakis (D-Dist. 33, Coventry, West Greenwich).
