6/5/2024 House passes Rep. Voas’ bill to increase veterans’ municipal tax exemption
STATE HOUSE – The House of Representatives today passed legislation (2024-H 7383A) sponsored by Rep. Brandon Voas (D-Dist. 57, Cumberland, Central Falls) that would increase the minimum veterans’ exemption on municipal taxes.  The bill would increase the minimum exemption from $1,000 to $5,000.

“Rhode Island’s veterans have already sacrificed and given so much so that the people of Rhode Island may live with freedom and without fear.  Raising the minimum municipal tax exemption for them is the right thing to do in order to demonstrate our gratefulness for their service to us all,” said Representative Voas.

The legislation now heads to the Senate for consideration where Sen. Melissa A. Murray (D-Dist. 24, Woonsocket, North Smithfield) has introduced the companion legislation (2024-S 2172).
