Senator Elaine Morgan’s bill for veterans’ benefits poster passes the full Senate

STATE HOUSE — The Senate today passed legislation (2024-S 2128) introduced by Senator Elaine J. Morgan (R-Dist. 34, Hopkinton, Charlestown, Exeter, Richmond, West Greenwich) that would require employers in the state with more than fifty (50) employees to display a poster containing basic information on veterans' benefits and services.
The information would be created and distributed by the Department of Labor and Training in consultation with the Office of Veterans Services and include contact and website information for the Office of Veterans Services and the department's veterans' program; Substance abuse and mental health treatment; Educational, workforce, and training resources; Tax benefits; Rhode Island state veteran drivers' licenses and non-driver identification cards; Eligibility for unemployment insurance benefits under state and/or federal law; Legal services; and contact information for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.
“The poster would be similar to what employers are currently required for to post for labor laws, workers’ compensation, minimum wage, and other regulations,” said Senator Morgan. “It’s important because our veterans have made many sacrifices in service to our country and are deserving of all the benefits offered to them. The public display of available services at places of employment will raise awareness for veterans of their eligibility and provide a road map of quick access to service portals.”
The measure now moves to the House, where Rep. Samuel A. Azzinaro (D-Dist. 37, Westerly) has introduced companion legislation (2024-H 7058).
