7/25/2024 Rep. McEntee secures $5,000 grant for traffic calming measures on Middlebridge Road
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Carol Hagan McEntee has delivered a $5,000 legislative grant to the South Kingstown Police Department for traffic calming measures to be used on the heavily traveled Middlebridge Road.

The grant will be used to install digital speed feedback signs along the road.

“For years, Middlebridge Road and its residents have been plagued by speeding high-volume traffic that puts residents and motorists in significant danger,” said Representative McEntee (D-Dist. 33, South Kingstown, Narragansett).  “The list of fatalities and serious accidents on this road is tragic and the situation needs to be rectified to ensure and protect the public’s health and safety.  This grant will go a long way to calming traffic on this road that is often utilized by visitors going to the beach and students going to URI for classes and events, with many failing to realize the dangers of speeding down this roadway.”

“Ensuring that or roadways are safe for our residents is a key piece of the work we do every day,” said Chief Matthew C. Moynihan of Police for South Kingstown. “Traffic feedback signs are an effective tool to remind drivers that they need to slow down and are particularly useful on those roads where using other speed deterrents is not feasible. I want to thank Representative McEntee for this generous grant and her commitment to public safety in South Kingstown.”
