8/27/2024 Media Advisory: Rep. Morales and George Wiley Center to host press conference in opposition to proposed RI Energy rate hikes
STATE HOUSE — Rep. David Morales will join the George Wiley Center and other community advocates on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 2 p.m. outside of Rhode Island Energy at 280 Melrose Street in Providence to oppose this year’s proposed energy rate hikes.

“This year, RI Energy is attempting to impose a staggering 23% rate increase for electricity services — a move that will severely impact working families, seniors and low-income residents,” said Representative Morales (D-Dist. 7, Providence). “These rate hikes are not just numbers on a bill; they represent a significant burden on our communities, especially those already struggling to make ends meet. Utilities are a basic human right and should be affordable and accessible to all. Together, we can stand up to corporate greed and demand that the Public Utilities Commission reject these rate hikes.”

Representative Morales also invites community members to join him at the rally to share their experiences and make their voices heard.

“Bring your voices, signs, and passion as we gather to send a strong message to RI Energy: enough is enough!” said Representative Morales. “Our community deserves better. Let’s rally together for affordable energy and economic justice!”
