Media Advisory: Aquidneck Island Climate Caucus to host virtual conversation with Office of Energy Resources on its programs to help Rhode Islanders
|
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Lauren H. Carson (D-Dist. 75, Newport) and Rep. Terri Cortvriend (D-Dist. 72, Portsmouth, Middletown) will host an upcoming virtual Aquidneck Island Climate Caucus conversation with the Office of Energy Resources on its many resources to help Rhode Islanders conserve energy and save money.
The forum, which is open to the public, will take place on Zoom Sunday, Oct. 27, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required for access and is available at this link. Registrants will receive the Zoom link the day of the meeting.
The event will feature Karen Bradbury, administrator of energy legislation and programs at the state Office of Energy Resources (OER). This event will inform participants about the wide variety of programs available to Rhode Islanders. OER manages several state and federal programs for business, nonprofits and residents. Bradbury will give an overview of the agency and talk about the work OER is doing with funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act. She’ll also share information on several state programs that OER is managing that can save Rhode Islanders money.
The Aquidneck Island Climate Caucus is a community group formed by Representatives Cortvriend and Carson to give voice to the importance of mitigating and adapting for the earth’s changing climate.
The caucus will host another online meeting on Zoom Sunday, Nov. 17, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. featuring Aquidneck Island Land Trust Executive Director Terry Sullivan.
Join this conversation to learn about the Aquidneck Island Land Trust’s nearly $2 million award from NOAA’s Climate Resilience Regional Challenge, a competitive grant program administered by NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management with funding from the Inflation Reduction Act.
The project, Growing Regional Resilience Coordination on Aquidneck Island, was developed in close collaboration with the municipalities of Newport, Middletown and Portsmouth, as well as Naval Station Newport. A zoom link for that meeting will be publicized at a later date. For more information on either meeting or the Aquidneck Island Climate Caucus, email aquidneckclimate@gmail.com.
