11/12/2024 Media Advisory: Housing Affordability commission to meet Thursday
Commission will hear presentations on accessibility in housing
 
STATE HOUSE – The Special Legislative Commission to Study Housing Affordability will meet Thursday, Nov. 14, at 1 p.m., in the House Lounge on the second floor of the State House for presentations on accessibility in housing.

The agenda for the meeting includes presentations on accessible housing and universal design — design that is usable by all people to the greatest extent possible — given by Rep. Tina Spears (D-Dist. 36, Charlestown, New Shoreham, South Kingstown, Westerly), who is also the executive director of the Community Provider Network of Rhode Island; Grace Duffy, policy coordinator for the Community Provider Network of Rhode Island; Josh Safdie, managing principal of KMA, LLC; and Kathryn Denis, senior associate at KMA, LLC.

No public testimony will be taken at this meeting.

The meeting will be televised on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channel 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. It will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.

The commission, led by Rep. June S. Speakman (D-Dist. 68, Warren, Bristol), is studying barriers to affordable housing creation and identifying ways to help cities and towns meet their obligations under the Low and Moderate Income Housing Act to ensure that at least 10 percent of their housing stock qualifies as affordable.
