MEDIA ADVISORY: Plastic Bottle Waste Commission meets Monday

STATE HOUSE – The Special Joint Legislative Commission to Study and Provide Recommendations to Protect Our Environment and Natural Resources from Plastic Bottle Waste will meet on Monday, Dec. 9 at 3 p.m. in the House Lounge of the State House.
The commission will hear testimony from the following individuals:

J.P. Walsh, URI Graduate School of Oceanography

Scott Breen, Sr. Vice President of Sustainability, Can Manufactures Institute
-
Steve Alexander, CEO/President, Association of Plastic Recyclers
-
Scott DeFife, President, Glass Packaging Institute
No public testimony will be taken at the meeting.
The commission is chaired by Rep. Carol Hagan McEntee (D-Dist. 33, South Kingstown, Narragansett) and Sen. Mark P. McKenney (D-Dist. 30, Warwick) and is tasked with creating a comprehensive study on the issues concerning current practices for the recycling of plastic bottles, miniature alcoholic beverage containers, and single-use plastic packaging and identifying pathways to improve the state's ability to address and recycle these materials.
