12/18/2024 Reps. McGaw, Cortvriend and Sen. Ujifusa host info session on advanced electric meters
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Michelle McGaw (D-Dist. 71, Portsmouth, Tiverton, Little Compton), Rep. Terri Cortvriend (D-Dist. 72, Portsmouth, Middletown) and Sen. Linda L. Ujifusa (D-Dist. 11, Portsmouth, Bristol) invite residents to join them and Rhode Island Energy for an upcoming local event to learn the facts about the new electric meters with Advanced Metering Functionality (AMF) the utility is installing across the state.

An AMF meter is an electric meter with two-way communication between the meter and the utility’s systems. Unlike traditional meters that require a drive-by reading to collect data, the AMF meter transmits usage and meter status information directly to RI Energy. They also immediately report power outages, have troubleshooting capabilities and allow remote services connections for move-ins and move-outs.

The event will take place Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 6:30 p.m. at the Portsmouth Free Public Library, 2658 East Main Road. It will be an opportunity to learn and ask questions about the new meters, which have sparked conversation among community members. The meeting is free and open to the public. No advanced registration is required, and the legislators encourage anyone with questions or concerns about the meters to take advantage of this opportunity to learn all about them.
