1/29/2025 Rep. Diaz releases statement on House passage of Trump resolution
STATE HOUSE — Rep. Grace Diaz (D-Dist. 11, Providence) has released a statement in the wake of a resolution passed by the House of Representatives congratulating Donald Trump on his election to the presidency.

“My commitment to protecting the immigrants in our state is firm and unwavering. I understand what they are going through because I went through it myself. Rhode Island is home to many working families — families that come from diverse backgrounds and face their own unique challenges, from the youngest child to the eldest member. They experience real suffering, and it is our duty to acknowledge and address this.

“Make no mistake — when the House of Representatives adopted a resolution acknowledging that Donald Trump was elected president, it was no statement of policy, and it certainly wasn’t an endorsement of his actions or his administration. It was merely protocol. It was the same thing the House has done every four years after every presidential election since as far back as anyone can remember.

“Protecting Rhode Island can take many forms. Today, I renew my commitment to work harder than ever — to think more and feel less, guided by a vision to choose the best for everyone. So, let’s not dwell on a symbolic gesture, but rather dedicate ourselves to protecting our immigrant communities. They need it now more than ever.”
