2/3/2025 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Education Committee to hear bills, including creation of Warwick school budget commission
STATE HOUSE — The House Education Committee is scheduled to meet Thursday to hear testimony legislation, including a bill (2025-H 5252) from Committee Chairman Joseph M. McNamara (D-Dist. 19, Warwick, Cranston) that would create a budget commission for Warwick Public Schools.

The five-member commission, which is being requested by a resolution of the Warwick City Council, would oversee the operations of Warwick Public Schools and present a preliminary analysis of the school district’s financial situation. §  (2025-H 5163) — this bill, introduced by Chairman McNamara, would direct all local education agencies to select one of the identified high-quality curricula and materials for science and technology no later than June 30, 2026.

§  (2025-H 5164) — this bill, introduced by Rep. Lauren H. Carson (D-Dist. 75, Newport), would establish a task force managed by the children’s cabinet to develop recommendations to improve access to early intervention and early childhood special education services.
