3/3/2025 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Judiciary Committee meets tomorrow to hear several bills
STATE HOUSE – The House Judiciary Committee will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, March 4 at the Rise of the House (approximately 5 p.m.) in the House Lounge to hear testimony on several bills.
           
Among the legislation being heard by the committee are the following bills:
  • 2025-H 5926, Rep. Thomas E. Noret (D-Dist. 25, Coventry, West Warwick), creates a cause of action for the intentional or negligent injury or death of a pet.
  • 2025-H 5128, sponsored by Rep. David A. Bennett (D-Dist. 20, Warwick, Cranston), makes any offense under this statute that could result in the death of an animal punishable by up to 3 years in prison, a fine of at least $1,000, or both, for each offense.
  • 2025-H 5447, sponsored by Rep. Patricia A. Serpa (D-Dist. 27, West Warwick, Coventry), prohibits a person to sell, offer for sale, display for sale or otherwise distribute a farmed animal fur product within the state and provides graduated civil penalties for violations.
  • 2025-H 5672, sponsored by Rep. Julie A. Casimiro (D-Dist. 31, North Kingstown, Exeter), establishes the rights of adoptive/foster children or those in guardianship, to have post-separation visitation with their siblings.
  • 2025-H 5640, sponsored by Rep. Raymond A. Hull (D-Dist. 6, Providence, North Providence), adds a provision in the statute relating to one-way highways, providing an increased penalty when a motorist travels the wrong way on an interstate highway or an entrance or exit ramp connected to an interstate highway.
