3/4/2025 MEDIA ADVISORY: Rep. Alzate and Sen. Urso to host female students for International Women’s Day on Thursday
STATE HOUSE –Rep. Karen Alzate (D-Dist. 60, Pawtucket, Central Falls) and Sen. Lori Urso (D-Dist. 8, Pawtucket) will be hosting three female Pawtucket students at the State House to serve as “Legislators for the Day” in honor of International Women’s Day.
           
On Thursday, March 6, the students and legislators will hold a meet and greet luncheon at 12 p.m. in the House Lounge where the students will be recognized for their academic achievements. 
           
The students are Sahara Silwal from Shea High School, Nalian Dominguez from Tolman High School and Jaelyn Batiz from Jacqueline M. Walsh School for the Arts.
           
The students will also be able to speak with a four-member panel of women professionals consisting of Melissa Husband, chief of staff to the president of Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island; Chanda Womack, ED.D, executive director of the Alliance of Rhode Island Southeast Asians for Education (ARISE); Christy B. Durant, Esq., legal counsel for the House Policy Office; and Angeliz Rosa, director of The Children’s Workshop in Pawtucket. 
           
After the luncheon, the students will join the legislators for a tour of the building and a view into the inner workings of state government.  The students will follow the legislators as they conduct their day in the State House, meet with Rhode Island’s General Officers and be recognized on the House floor during session.
