MEDIA ADVISORY: Rep. Fogarty to host celebration in honor of International Women’s Day
|
STATE HOUSE — Putting a spotlight on the smart, driven women of Rhode Island, Rep. Kathleen A. Fogarty (D-Dist. 35, South Kingstown) will host a celebration of the United Nations-recognized International Women’s Day tomorrow.
This year, the theme of the day is “Accelerate Action” to achieve gender equity and equality. Speakers will include Leslie Bunnell, president of the Rhode Island National Organization for Women, and Dawn Williams, R.N., a Service Employees International Union delegate at Butler Hospital.
The event will take place on Tuesday, March 11, at 3 p.m. in the House Lounge on the second floor of the State House.
Participants are encouraged to wear purple to symbolize justice, dignity and solidarity with the women’s rights movement.
International Women’s Day is a day to reflect on the achievements of women and the fight for gender equality. It is also a day for acknowledging the strides the world has taken in advancing women’s rights, freedoms and protections. The United Nations has recognized and celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8 since 1975.
