MEDIA ADVISORY: House Judiciary Committee meets tomorrow to consider and hear several bills
|
STATE HOUSE – The House Judiciary Committee will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, March 11, at the Rise of the House (approximately 5 p.m.) in the House Lounge to consider three bills, and to hear testimony on several other bills.
The committee will reconsider legislation (2025-H 5185A) sponsored by Rep. Susan R. Donovan (D-Dist. 69, Bristol, Portsmouth) that prohibits the use of service agreements that are unfair to an owner of residential real estate who enters into such an agreement or to persons who may become owners of that real estate in the future.
The committee will also consider the following two bills:

2025-H 5438, sponsored by Rep. Raymond A. Hull (D-Dist. 6, Providence, North Providence), dictates the length a search warrant involving a tracking device would be valid and provide a process to extend the time frame of the tracking device for good cause.

2025-H 5442, sponsored by Rep. Kathleen A. Fogarty (D-Dist. 35, South Kingstown), expands the meaning of bomb threats and false reports to include any warning or threat of the existence of an explosive device and allows judges to impose conditions of bail to include extreme risk protection orders, no trespass orders and counseling.
Among the legislation being heard by the committee are the following bills:

2025-H 5638, sponsored by Rep. Patricia A. Serpa (D-Dist. 27, West Warwick, Coventry), provides for a single, increased range of penalties for all driving offenses which result in serious bodily injury or death.

2025-H 5899, sponsored by Rep. Thomas E. Noret (D-Dist. 25, Coventry, West Warwick), adds five driving violations to the statute that defines aggressive driving.

2025-H 5930, sponsored by Rep. Rebecca Kislak (D-Dist. 4, Providence), extends the range of a school zone for purposes of school-zone-speed-enforcement systems from one-quarter of a mile to three-quarters of a mile.

2025-H 5931, sponsored by Rep. Brandon Potter (D-Dist. 16, Cranston), repeals the section of law relating to suspension of operator licenses for failure to pay fines.
