3/24/2025 MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate Finance Committee to meet four times this week to hear department budgets, budget articles and legislation
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Finance Committee will be meeting four times this week to hear testimony on department budgets, budget articles and legislation.
           
The committee is chaired by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, Little Compton, Newport, Tiverton).
           
On Tuesday, March 25, at 3 p.m. in Room 211 of the State House, the committee will hear testimony on the FY 25 revised and FY 26 budgets for the Department of Corrections.  The committee will also hear the results of the 2025 RIDOC Recidivism Report.
           
Also, on Tuesday, March 25, at the RISE of the Senate (approximately 5 p.m.) in Room 211 of the State House, the committee will hear testimony on the FY 25 revised and FY 26 budgets for the following departments:
  • Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner
  • Rhode Island College
  • Community College of Rhode Island
The committee will also hear Article 3, Sections 23 and 24, which relates to government reform and reorganization.
           
On Thursday, March 27, at 3 p.m. in the Senate Lounge of the State House, the committee will hear testimony on the FY 25 revised and FY 26 budgets for the Department of Public Safety. 
           
Also, on Thursday, March 27, at the RISE of the Senate (approximately 5 p.m.) in the Senate Lounge of the State House, the committee will hear testimony on the FY 25 revised and FY 26 budgets for the following departments:
  • Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals
  • Office of the Mental Health Advocate
  • Department of Health.
The committee will also hear testimony on the following budget articles:
The committee will also hear testimony on the following bills sponsored by Sen. Jacob E. Bissaillon (D-Dist. 1, Providence):
  • 2025-S 0678, which grants municipalities the authority to impose a parking services sales tax on parking lots and parking structures that charge for parking services through an ordinance.
  • 2025-S 0663, which removes the authority of the commissioner of elementary and secondary education to withhold funds from a debtor community through the general treasurer.
