Media Advisory: Committee to hear bills related to homelessness and affordable housing
|
STATE HOUSE — The House Committee on Municipal Government and Housing will meet Wednesday to hear bills related to the Homeless Bill of Rights, warming and cooling centers and affordable housing inventory. It will also vote on a bill to allow municipalities to enact local tax amnesty events.
The committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday, April 2, at 4 p.m. in Room 101 on the first floor of the State House. The committee is scheduled to vote on one bill:

2025-H 5695 — This legislation sponsored by Rep. Brandon T. Voas (D-Dist. 59, Cumberland, Central Falls) would permit municipalities to enact ordinances that provide them the authority to organize local tax amnesty events once every three years.
The committee will also hear several bills, including:

2025-H 5665 — This legislation introduced by Rep. Jennifer A. Stewart (D-Dist. 59, Pawtucket) would update the Homeless Bill of Rights to add rules governing the interaction with encampments and include the right to access clean and sanitary conditions.

2025-H 6068 — This legislation sponsored by Rep. Thomas E. Noret (D-Dist. 25, Coventry) would require municipalities to report to the Department of Housing an inventory of single-family low- or moderate-income housing available to rent or own. Information to be made available to the public on the department’s website and emailed to interested parties.

2025-H 5953 — This legislation sponsored by Rep. Teresa A. Tanzi (D-Dist. 34, South Kingstown, Narragansett) would establish municipal alerts to trigger during extreme heat or cold to help at-risk individuals with resources including, but not limited to, warming and cooling centers.
Written testimony must be submitted to HouseMunicipalGovernmentandHousing@rilegislature.gov. Testimony must include your name, the bill number, and your viewpoint, whether for, against, or neither. Sign-up sheets for in-person testimony will be available in the hearing room.
