4/7/2025 Media Advisory: House Health, Human Services Committee to vote on bill, hold hearings on Medicare bills
STATE HOUSE – The House Health and Human Services Committee meets tomorrow to vote on one bill and hear several others concerning Medicare and other health insurance.

The committee is scheduled to meet Thursday, April 10, at the rise of the House session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in Room 135 on the first floor of the State House.

The committee is scheduled to vote on:
  • 2025-H 5852 — Sponsored by Rep. Joseph J. Solomon Jr. (D-Dist. 22, Warwick), this bill expands the existing law regarding collaborative practice agreements to allow nonphysician health care providers to enter into such agreements. The committee is slated to consider an amendment.
The committee is scheduled to hold hearings on several bills, several of which concern Medicare:
  • 2025-H 5431 — Sponsored by House Health and Human Services Committee Chairwoman Susan R. Donovan (D-Dist. 69, Bristol, Portsmouth), this bill would provide those enrolled in Medicare guaranteed enrollment rights annually for Medicare supplement policies.
  • 2025-H 5499 — This bill sponsored by Rep. Jennifer A. Stewart (D-Dist. 59, Pawtucket) would allow continuous enrollment in Medicare supplement policies and prohibit insurers from denying enrollment due to pre-existing conditions.
  • 2025-H 6118 — Sponsored by Rep. Teresa A. Tanzi (D-Dist. 34, South Kingstown, Narragansett), this bill would require insurers to cover acute mental health crisis mobile response and stabilization services for children.
 
The meeting will be televised by Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channels 15 and 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. It will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.

Testimony on the bills being heard will be accepted in person or in writing via email to HouseHealthandHumanServices@rilegislature.gov. Written testimony must include a name and any applicable organization, the bill number(s) and viewpoint (for/against/neither). It will be considered a public document.
