Statement from Speaker Shekarchi on the passing of Pope Francis
|
 STATE HOUSE – Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi issued the following statement today on the passing of Pope Francis:
“Today is a very sad day, not just for Rhode Island, but around the globe as we mourn the passing of Pope Francis. He was truly “the people’s Pope,” and until his final moments, strongly advocated for the Catholic Church – and society in general – to be more inclusive, more tolerant, and more caring. I hope the next Pope has the same qualities as Pope Francis.”
