4/30/2025 MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate Finance Committee meets tomorrow to hear legislation
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Finance Committee will be meeting tomorrow, Thursday, May 1, at the RISE of the Senate (approximately 5 p.m.) in Room 211 of the State House to hear testimony on several pieces of legislation.
           
The committee is chaired by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, Little Compton, Newport, Tiverton).
           
Among the legislation scheduled to be heard are the following bills:
  • 2025-S 0029, sponsored by Sen. Leonidas P. Raptakis (D-Dist. 33, Coventry, West Greenwich), raises the amount of life insurance the state provides at no charge to Rhode Island National Guard members called up for federal duty to $500,000.
  • 2025-S 0030, sponsored by Sen. Jonathon Acosta (D-Dist. 16, Central Falls, Pawtucket), creates a postsecondary tuition assistance program for shortage teaching fields.
  • 2025-S 0034, sponsored by Sen. Walter S. Felag Jr. (D-Dist. 10, Warren, Bristol, Tiverton), eliminates the sales tax on taxi services and pet care services.
  • 2025-S 0035, sponsored by Sen. Ryan W. Pearson (D-Dist. 19, Cumberland, Lincoln), directs the Department of Education to develop and adopt regulations for energy capable school buildings.
  • 2025-S 0039, sponsored by Sen. Victoria Gu (D-Dist. 38, Charlestown, Westerly, South Kingstown), exempts from the sales tax scalp hair prosthesis or wigs that are necessary due to hair loss from a medical condition.
The meeting will be televised by Capitol Television on: Cox Communications, channels 15 and 61 for high definition; i3Broadband (Formerly Full Channel) on 15; and Verizon, on channel 34.  Senate committee hearings may also air on Channel 75 for Cox subscribers.  Livestreaming is available at https://capitoltvri.cablecast.tv
