Media Advisory: Commission on Child Care to hold legislative retreat Friday
|
STATE HOUSE — The Permanent Joint Legislative Commission on Child Care will hold its bi-annual legislative retreat Friday, Oct. 24, 2025, at 9 a.m. at Rhode Island College in Alger Hall Room 110.
The event is an opportunity for child care business owners, early childhood education advocates, local leaders, state agencies and federal leaders to network and brainstorm ideas to form new budget and policy priorities for the upcoming legislative session to strengthen Rhode Island’s child care and early childhood education systems.
The commission is co-chaired by Sen. Alana M. DiMario (D-Dist. 35, Narragansett, North Kingstown, New Shoreham) and Rep. Grace Diaz (D-Dist. 11, Providence), who will preside over the event.
The retreat will feature a range of speakers, including state and federal officials, policy experts and child care advocates, including a panel discussion with House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi (D-Dist. 23, Warwick), Senate President Valarie J. Lawson (D-Dist. 14, East Providence), Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, Little Compton, Newport, Tiverton), Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos, Secretary of State Gregg Amore and General Treasurer James Diossa.
U.S. Senator Jack Reed and U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner will also speak at the event.
