1/24/2019 Ucci named House senior deputy majority leader
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Stephen R. Ucci has been named senior deputy majority leader by House Speaker Nicholas A. Mattiello.

The senior deputy majority leader coordinates and oversees the 16 deputy majority leaders and is part of the Democratic leadership team headed by Speaker Mattiello.

“I am deeply honored that Speaker Mattiello has entrusted me to serve in this capacity. It will be a privilege to work alongside my fellow leaders to help advance our shared goal of building a robust economy with excellent jobs for Rhode Islanders. This is an exciting opportunity to help move our state forward,” said Senior Deputy Majority Leader Ucci (D-Dist. 42, Johnston, Cranston).

First elected in 2004, Senior Deputy Majority Leader Ucci is first vice chairman of the House Rules Committee, and also serves as a member of the Labor Committee.

He is co-chairman of the Defense Economy Planning Commission and is a member of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Drone Advisory Committee Subcommittee on Preemption as well as the National Conference of State Legislatures Cybersecurity Task Force. He was the co-chairman of the Special Commission on Reapportionment, which oversaw the drawing of new district lines to reflect population changes in 2012.

Representative Ucci graduated from La Salle Academy in 1989 and Providence College in 1993. He received his juris doctorate from New England School of Law in 1996. He is counsel at Adler, Pollock and Sheehan in Providence, and lives in Johnston with his wife, Dina, and their daughter, Gianna.
